It’s truly important to comprehend what it truly means to live under GRACE and no longer under the law.
There are many interpretations of what this statement really means, yet, God would expect that there should be a common understanding that will lead all searchers to a greater comprehension of His love and his will for mankind. God does not place anything to intentionally confuse us, as God is NOT the author of confusion.
As a result, God would expect us to be able to decipher His word, but His only caution or admonish to us, is to search “for her (i.e. Knowledge) as [for] hid treasures;” (Proverbs 2:4) . God does not expect us to understand his word by simply glancing over, or via a casual reading. God expects us to use our powers of reasoning and understanding, to sit and grapple with His word and use a variety of resources to aid us in our quest for knowledge and comprehension.
Again, let’s revisit proverbs to see the initial quote in its context:
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, [and] apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, [and] liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as [for] hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding.
– Prov 2:1-6
From the above text we realize that God desires us to engage in a meaningful “search and discovery” operation to understand who He is and what He desires for us in our lives. God needs to be the treasure of our lives. We need to desire Him more than gold or silver, for He is worth more than either.
Consequently, this devotion is one part of several, to lead us into a study to truly grasp a deeper understanding of God’s law. Remember, as we proceed in this study, you are encouraged to take notes and reflect on what is shared by drawing heavily upon a multitude of resources that will aid you in fully comprehending God’s word: (Bible, Concordance, prayer, reasoning powers & bible commentaries where applicable)
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? [them that are] weaned from the milk, [and] drawn from the breasts. 10 For precept [must be] upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little – Isaiah 28:9,10
