Our sun is a complex organism. The temperature at its core can reach to 15 million degrees Celsius due to a process called nuclear fusion. As the energy moves toward the sun’s surface, the temperature cools to a “toasty” range of around 3.5 million degrees Celsius.
The three levels of the sun’s atmosphere (photosphere, chromosphere and corona) also have various temperatures. From lowest to highest, the temperatures move from 5,500 degrees (photosphere) to 4,320 degrees (chromosphere) to 1 million degrees (corona). Bare in mind that we “die from heat” when our temperature reaches an “unbearable” level of 32-34 degrees!
The lovely picture in this article shows the sun “setting” (which really means that our section of the earth is moving away from the sun’s visibility). Question: when the sun sets, is it cooler? Does its temperature move from a merciless 1 million degrees to a more manageable 31 degrees? No, it does not. As harmless as it may appear at sunrise or sunset, the sun is still the same.
As Christians we are to be likewise: unchangeable. No situation should cause us to abandon our calling and behave like those of the world. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). In our actions with men we must be firm, unmovable and resolute. Like our sun, we must never loose our innate characteristics. Like THE Son, we must show ourselves to be light to a dark and dying world.

One response to “Shine like The Son”
Amen. Powerful devotion. It is important to represent that light where ever we may go. The greatest sermon preach is the way we carry about ourselves for others to see.
